The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, began his summer holidays this Saturday in Lanzarote, as published by La Voz, where he will once again stay with his family at the official residence of La Mareta, in the tourist town of Costa Teguise.
Sánchez landed at 13:07 (Canary time) at César Manrique-Lanzarote airport aboard an Air Force Falcon jet and, around 13:30, entered the La Mareta complex by van, as witnessed by EFE.
The head of the Executive has habitually chosen Lanzarote to enjoy different rest periods since 2020, especially in summer, but also during Easter or Christmas.
Before starting his holidays, Sánchez has had an institutional agenda in recent days marked by the evolution of forest fires on the peninsula and by migratory pressure in Ceuta, where he traveled this Friday to address the increase in irregular arrivals, which amounted to more than 50,000 this week according to the Ministry of the Interior.
La Mareta is a complex built at the time for Hussein of Jordan, who gifted it in the late 80s to King Juan Carlos I.
In 2015, the Royal Household made this residence available to Patrimonio Nacional, where heads of state or government have stayed, such as German chancellors Helmut Kohl and Gerhard Schröder, the president of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev, the Czech president Václav Havel, or the Spanish presidents José María Aznar, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, and Pedro Sánchez himself.
In some of his previous stays, Sánchez has coincided on the island with some members of his Government, such as the current president of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, and has received visits from members of his cabinet, such as the Canary Islands minister Ángel Víctor Torres.
Last year, he held a working meeting with the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, at the headquarters of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
