The San Bartolomé City Council has expressed this Monday its condolences for the death this Sunday, May 28, of Rosa María Mesa, former councilor of the municipality and founder of the Social and Cultural Association for Women Mararía.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, on behalf of the entire municipal corporation, conveys his deepest condolences to the family and friends of Rosa, a person who "worked tirelessly for the good of the municipality in her years in the consistory and for the rights of women, as well as for the fight and commitment to equality", he revealed.
Rosa María Mesa García passed away this Sunday at the age of 71 in Playa Honda. Rosa was the wife of the former director of the General State Administration, former secretary of UGT and prominent member of the PSOE, Orlando Suárez.
Rosa María Mesa was a historical socialist of the island, with the PSOE she was a councilor in the San Bartolomé City Council and held several organic positions. In January 2023, the socialist group of San Bartolomé recognized her as a prominent member within the I Alexis Tejera Awards. In addition, Rosa was one of the founders of the Mararía association thirty years ago. Precisely, in 2018 the association for helping women victims of gender violence paid her a tribute.
