A resident of Lanzarote interested in acquiring a social housing unit reports not being able to buy the house because he has been waiting for a response from the Canary Islands Housing Institute since October.
"I already asked the Government of the Canary Islands to buy the house. I did the registration and they told me yes, that I had everything approved and that I had all the papers in order. And now, once I have spoken with my bank to apply for the mortgage, the developer gave me some papers and we have been waiting for three months for the Government of the Canary Islands to answer us and give us the signed paper so I can buy the house," he explains.
"Right now I live in a rented house that has been auctioned and at any moment the buyer can come and I'll be out on the street. It's not for pleasure. It's that I have to go live there yes or yes. I am buying an official protection house because I don't have the resources to buy a normal house," he says.
Due to the delay by the Government of the Canary Islands, the complainant explains that the mortgage has increased by 22 euros per month. "And if I don't sign before February 18, it will go up again because the Euribor rises. Maybe 30 or 40 euros. I have been waiting for an answer since October 24," he criticizes.
The resident of Lanzarote explains that when he tries to contact them by phone, the call is automatically diverted to Tenerife. "They associate it with a lot of workload. But that workload they say means that my mortgage goes up twice as much. They are playing with people's money," he points out.
The complainant points out that he is not the only one going through this situation. "Several buyers and I have a total defenselessness with the Canary Islands Housing Institute that is not normal," he explains. "I'm having a very bad time, I don't sleep from nerves. This is an ordeal," he concludes.
