'Who Cares?', 'Mamma Mia!', 'La Jaula de la Locas'... have been some of the musicals that have seen Raúl Maro grow professionally. The 35-year-old dancer from Lanzarote, who has been part of famous musicals in Madrid and Barcelona for years, continues his journey on stage. Applying for new castings to get a role and embarking on new projects is his main task at the moment. "I have a lot of ambition and desire to grow," he revealed to La Voz.

The young man graduated in dramatic art in Tenerife, who discovered his passion and vocation from a very young age, when at the age of nine he started dancing in the comparsa Los Guanacheros, in Lanzarote. He discovered that musical theater was his source of energy, which made him pursue his dreams and decided to bet on giving this area within the theater a chance. "I went to Madrid to study a diploma in musical theater," he recalled to the newspaper.

This 2024 he is preparing to return to the castings for the new season. His attitude is the main ingredient of the success he is achieving every year. "I'm always looking for a way to try to work in my field," he revealed enthusiastically. "This whole world is so vast that I don't know where I'm going to end up," I really like directing.

Confidence and intuition to advance in his career

His secret is to follow his intuition, which rarely fails him. "I let myself be guided by myself, by what I believe, I know that what I do is right and I'm on the right track," he revealed with conviction. His greatest impetus to not fall in the moments when things don't go his way is "to not stop being active and feel good about what I do," added the young man.

A lover of the adrenaline that auditions make him feel, but aware of the impact that a negative brings with it. "Not everything is rosy, there are castings that I have not passed, that I have not given the profile," he pointed out. He is clear that getting up after each fall is his strong point as an artist. "You have to be mentally prepared and trust yourself", he pointed out. He repeats over and over again an advice that serves as relief for those moments. "A negative doesn't mean you're less valid," he made clear.

"Not everything is rosy, but you have to be mentally prepared and trust yourself"

Although he has acknowledged that many times he "considers it an injustice", he is aware that "there is a lot of competition" and it is important to "be trained and prepared", he commented. You can dance, sing and put effort into the tests, but that doesn't determine that they are going to take you, he confessed. "Maybe they will in one or, on the contrary, in none," he added. It all depends on the person who values you and the profile they are looking for at the time. "You see yourself and think you have the profile and then they consider that you don't, so they don't even let you pass the first round," he said about the reality of the tests. "There are castings in which they have thrown me out in the first round."

The final conclusion he draws from professional disappointments is that you can always find the positive side. "Despite everything, my career has been transformed," he pointed out to the newspaper. After years of dedicating himself to being in the background on some occasions, his professional course has taken a turn. "Before, I was the one who accompanied and danced for the main characters, now the one who accompanies is me," he added.

A lover of musicals

Maro has participated in many of the musicals that resonate and resonated on the Gran Vía in Madrid. Mamma Mia!, 'La Jaula de las Locas', 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert', 'Aladdin', 'Who Cares?', and some other show that is not unknown to the public. They have given him a lot of knowledge, experience and have made him promote his true vocation. "Mamma Mia! meant something very beautiful to me," he confessed. A function with which he was two years in both cities.

However, he will always remember 'La Jaula de las Locas' as the function that has marked him for life. "It's the one that has brought me the best things on a professional and personal level," he argued. With the musical he was on tour from June 2022 to April 2023, after a call from the well-known theater director Ángel Llácer, with whom he says that "I learn a lot and it is a luxury to work with him."

In addition, his experience in the artistic world does not end here. He also had a small role in a film by director Armando Ravelo. The film 'Once Upon a Time in the Canary Islands', which was filmed two years ago.

Presentation of the Drag Gala of the Arrecife Carnivals

Presenting the Drag Gala at the Arrecife Carnivals this 2024 has been a new challenge for Maro. "It's not a terrain that I control, but I was able to bring out my acting side," he added. A participation in the gala of which he feels very proud. "At first I got tense, but then I saw myself solving it well," he revealed. "I was very well accompanied and supported," he revealed about his colleagues at the gala, the well-known drag queen Supremme Deluxe and the journalist, Laura San José.

Although hosting a gala "is not his specialty", the actor has acknowledged that he wants to improve himself day by day and take advantage of opportunities as an artist in other areas. "I don't want to see myself as an intruder, but I have the goal of dedicating myself to doing new things," he stressed. He knows what he is worth and that is how he shows himself confident with his words. "I trust in what I can offer and the steps I am climbing and overcoming."

He dares to do everything since he released his first single. 'Huir', a song that he released last June 2023, by the hand of the composer and producer David Parejo, who was the one who launched to write it and produce it. "He liked it and understood the idea of what I wanted to convey," he recalled. A single that has given him many joys, even that of being the opening act for the Cordovan singer Antonio José in Puerto del Carmen. "It was the second time I sang the song, all thanks to the Tías City Council that contacted me to perform," he acknowledged.

The thought of making another musical theme is running through his head. "I'm looking to release another theme in the summer," he clarified. He wants to make those two singles lead him to form a more solid musical career. "I want a solo show, to have my own songs and be able to sing them whenever I want," he added.
