Queen Sofía visited the Arrecife Food Bank this Friday to personally see the facilities and the work carried out by the volunteers of this non-profit organization.
“She has seen the facilities and the work of so many volunteers who dedicate part of their time to helping others,” said the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, who welcomed the Queen Emeritus and president of the Reina Sofia Foundation on her visit to the Food Bank and valued that the visit was aimed at a fundamental sector such as volunteering.
In this way, Queen Sofía continues her visits to the different food collection points in the areas most affected in Spain by the coronavirus crisis, which began at the end of September. As part of the same, she also visited the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Food Bank this Thursday.
The Reina Sofía Foundation has just launched the 'Operation Cold', a campaign in collaboration with the Spanish Federation of Food Banks, whose objective is to raise funds for the purchase of different refrigeration equipment so that the Food Banks can store and distribute fresh food in optimal conditions.
In addition to promoting the campaign, the Foundation has contributed the first 100,000 euros to it within the permanent support that it has been providing to Food Banks since 2012, within the framework of which these visits are made to give visibility to their work and needs, to thank the work of their volunteers, and to learn first-hand about their work and possible ways to help their social work.
