Puerto del Carmen is the town chosen for the celebration of the first edition of the solidarity race "Lanzarote on the move against cancer", which will be held next Saturday, June 3. From 10.00 in the
morning, solidarity runners are expected to come to the shopping center area of Los Jameos eager to have a good time and collaborate with the Spanish Association Against Cancer which, since May 2022, provides services on the island, reports the Association.
The president of the island Board of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Lanzarote, Lola Lasso, highlights "the importance of organizing this race for the first time in Lanzarote, "whose objective is to give visibility to cancer patients and their families and promote healthy living through the practice of sports". A solidarity event that has had "the support of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the City Council of Tías, which has always been collaborative with the Association, since it opened its island headquarters in Arrecife," they add.
The race will have three categories: one kilometer of solidarity march, one also for the children's category for children between 7 and 11 years old, and a four kilometer race in the absolute category for runners over 12 years old, they collect.
Registration will remain open until June 1 at 12:00 on the website: https://enmarcha.contraelcancer.es/es/evento/en-marcha-contra-el-cancer-lanzarote. It is also possible to register in person at the Association's headquarters at Calle Manolo Millares, 26 (Arrecife), from Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Spanish Association Against Cancer in Lanzarote has 2,167 active members on the island and serves about 70 users per year, including patients and family members. At the headquarters, a psychologist and a social worker work to respond, free of charge, to the needs of Lanzarote and Graciosa users who request it.
Some of the services that the Spanish Association Against Cancer provides on the island of Lanzarote are: psychological care, management of financial aid and food cards, loan of orthoprosthetic material, workshops, physiotherapy and a flat for stays for treatments in Gran Canaria, they conclude.
