The Roads Department of the Cabildo of Lanzarote will close to traffic from this Tuesday a lane of the road that leads to La Cueva de Los Verdes, as a pilot test to try to solve the traffic problem in the area. And the long queues are not only being generated in Timanfaya, but also affect this Tourist Center.

Thus, until the end of this month of August, on the LZ-205 between Jameos del Agua and Las Atalayas it will only be allowed to circulate in an ascending direction, from the Jameos intersection to the intersection with the LZ-201 that runs through the north of the island.

"This measure responds to a request transferred from the Tourist Centers to the Department of Public Works of the First Island Institution in order to offer a solution to the problem generated by traffic on the road that leads to the Cueva de los Verdes", they explain from the Cabildo.

“It is a pilot experience endorsed by the General Directorate of Traffic with which we intend to improve road safety and avoid the formation of queues at the entrance to the center, especially in the summer months”, said the CEO of the entity, Benjamín Perdomo.

The counselor wanted to thank “the predisposition and collaboration” provided by the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Provincial Traffic Headquarters of Las Palmas to “launch a solution proposal to a historical problem”, and pointed out that it is “the first time” in which an intervention “of this type with this purpose” is carried out.

For his part, the Minister of Public Works, Alfredo Mendoza, pointed out that the First Island Institution continues working to “offer alternatives to the problem generated by the load of vehicles in the main points of tourist interest, even more so in the summer months, when the island enjoys a high rate of hotel occupancy”.

"The result of this experience will allow us to develop a diagnosis with which to implement solutions that can be exported to the rest of the Tourist Centers and other strategic enclaves on the island”, they say from the Cabildo.
