The alert situation due to the "storm" expected this weekend in Lanzarote, with gusts of wind that can reach up to 80 kilometers per hour and coastal phenomena, has caused "suspensions" of sports, cultural and recreational activities that were scheduled to take place outdoors in different parts of the island. Early this Friday afternoon, the Cabildo and several municipalities had already chosen to adopt these measures "for security reasons."

In Arrecife, the City Council has reported the closure of all outdoor sports facilities this Saturday and that the traditional tourist and craft market will not be held. The activities programmed by the Department of Commerce on the occasion of Valentine's Day will also not take place. Another of the canceled activities is the first of the trails included in the program 'Routes in family Arrecife 2017' that organizes the Department of Culture and that was scheduled to take place this Sunday.

In Teguise, the activities planned outdoors on public roads and facilities have also been suspended. In addition, the Mayor's Office has issued a decree by which not only suspends the activities, but also determines the "closure of all municipal sports, cultural and leisure facilities." The suspension and closure is effective from this Friday afternoon and until "the impact of adverse weather phenomena is evaluated." It also makes express reference to the possibility of adopting other types of "measures at the municipal level" depending on how the situation evolves.

In the same line as the City Council of Teguise, the Consistory of Yaiza has issued a decree of suspension "of both sports and cultural activities" that could be affected by the storm. In addition, the population is recommended to "avoid as much as possible any type of recreational or recreational activity in open spaces." Among the activities and sports events that have been canceled are the V Timanfaya Triathlon and the VIII Vuelta a Playa Blanca in Handbike. The Cabildo has also suspended the competitions and activities programmed within the Island Sports Promotion Games.

In the case of the capital of Lanzarote, in addition, a team of Civil Protection, agents of the Local Police and personnel from the Department of Roads and Works will remain on alert to the possibility "of being required for interventions due to floods or any other incident" derived from weather conditions.

From the capital City Council they have reminded citizens that "in the event of any emergency", the contact telephones "are those enabled by the Security Consortium, 012 to request information and 112, in case of incidents".

They have also made a "call for prudence" and have asked that "risk situations be avoided", such as proximity to the tide, that elements be removed from windows, terraces and roofs that may be dragged by the wind and that sandbags be placed in the accesses to the street of homes and businesses that have suffered the entry of rainwater on previous occasions.
