The Cabildo of Lanzarote has congratulated the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's and other Dementias (AFA) for the opening of the Casa Paquita day center, a new space that is located on Rafael Alberti street in Tahíche.
The island's president, Oswaldo Betancort, personally conveyed his congratulations to the association during the opening ceremony held last Friday and highlighted the Casa Paquita project, which will provide the island with 30 new social and healthcare places, as a "refuge of understanding, care and support for our elders."
"From the Cabildo of Lanzarote, we are filled with pride to see how our community comes together to support the most vulnerable, and this center is a testament and an example to follow, of our solidarity and our ability to associate in favor of a cause that touches the hearts of all of us, in one way or another, directly or indirectly," said the president, highlighting the work of the former president of AFA, Manolo Ruiz, and the current president, Tina García, and the entire human team that makes it possible to provide a quality socio-health service and response to people with Alzheimer's disease in Lanzarote and their loved ones.
For his part, the Minister of Social Welfare, Marci Acuña, thanked "the work they carry out and the launch of a center that will offer new possibilities thanks to the multidisciplinary team of professionals, psychologists, physiotherapists, therapists and gerocultores who will provide their support and attention, not only to the users, but also to their families, who are the driving force behind each activity."
AFA Lanzarote, which has been operating for 28 years as a non-profit association in the field of psychosocial care, seeking to address the care and assistance to patients and families in a multidisciplinary way, brought together representatives of the third sector of the island, as well as friends and family, at the opening of Casa Paquita, who enjoyed the voice of Fabiola Socas, who performed accompanied by Jesús "Pingüino" González on the guitar.
