A total of 1,174,978 foreign individuals have submitted an application to regularize their administrative situation in Spain, which will allow them to work and reside legally. The process will allow migrants living in Lanzarote and the rest of the country without labor rights and accepting precarious conditions to survive to regularize their situation.

According to data provided by the Spanish Government's Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations, Elma Saiz, the Executive is already processing 680,000 applications, nearly 52%. The head of the Migrations portfolio recalls that the admission of the procedure entails a provisional permit to reside and work throughout the national territory.

This extraordinary procedure was approved last April in the Council of Ministers and sparked hoaxes from far-right groups and also the rejection of the Popular Party of Lanzarote.

The Spanish Executive enabled a period of two and a half months (from April 16 to June 30) for foreign individuals who arrived in Spain before January 1 of this year. The initial estimates from the Government of Spain were that more than half a million people could be regularized in this procedure, although in the end, it has been more than 1.1 million.

Among the autonomous communities with the most applications submitted, Catalonia leads the list (257,000), followed by the Community of Madrid (202,000), the Valencian Community (167,000), and Andalusia (160,001).

The minister also reported that the majority of applications come from foreigners born in Central and South America, accounting for 67% of the applications submitted. Meanwhile, the most frequent nationalities are Colombian (26%), followed by people from Morocco (13.4%), Venezuela (11.7%), and Peru (8.8%).
