The migrants arriving in the Canary Islands in small boats and inflatable boats have fallen by 59% so far this year. According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, between January and October 15, 13,491 migrants from the African continent have reached the islands, in a total of 218 precarious vessels.
In comparison, during the same period of the previous year, 32,878 people in 493 boats had survived the Atlantic route.
The arrival of people in irregular vessels has fallen throughout the country (39.9%), but the Canary Islands is the autonomous community that registers the largest decrease.
Despite this, the Balearic Islands have registered an upward trend, reaching the highest increase in the country (75.4%) in this same time frame. The Mediterranean archipelago has received a total of 6,104 migrants in 2024, while the previous year it had received 3,481.
According to accumulated data from the Ministry of Interior, so far in 2025, a total of 28,922 people have crossed Spanish borders by sea and land, 35.9% less than the previous year.
