Four new boats have been intercepted in waters near Lanzarote and another has arrived in La Graciosa on Thursday night and Friday morning, according to the Security and Emergency Consortium.
The first boat was rescued by Maritime Rescue at approximately 9:20 p.m. or 25 nautical miles east of Arrecife. On board were 47 people, 38 men, one woman and eight minors, of Maghrebi and sub-Saharan origin. A pregnant woman was transferred to the Molina Orosa Hospital.
Another of the boats was intercepted by Salvamar at approximately 12:45 a.m. 24 nautical miles east of Arrecife. There were 57 people on board, all of sub-Saharan origin and in apparent good health. When the Guardamar was heading to port, it had to go to rescue another boat east of Arrecife. On board were 49 people of sub-Saharan origin and in apparent good health. This last boat was detected by the SIVE of the Las Palmas Command.
Among the 106 people traveling on the two boats, there were 71 men, 22 women and 13 minors, CECOES informed EFE.
The fourth boat was detected near the coast of Arrecife at approximately 12:20 a.m. by a resident of the area. On the boat were 53 people, 49 men, one woman and three minors of Maghrebi origin and in apparent good health.
Finally, a fifth boat was spotted at approximately 5 a.m. by a French sailboat 47 nautical miles north of the island. The yacht continued to tow it to the port of Caleta de Sebo on the Eighth Island. Only two men of Maghrebi origin were traveling on it.
According to the Emergency Consortium, the CATE is full, so a temporary camp has been set up in Puerto Naos, where the adult men are located.
In total, nine boats have arrived in Lanzarote in less than 24 hours, totaling 376 people.
