From the Social and Cultural Association for women, Mararía, they wish to make public their sorrow for the passing of Alexis Tejera, and convey their condolences to his family and loved ones.

“There is little left that has not already been said about the kindness, honesty, convictions and vocation of public service of who was until yesterday the mayor of San Bartolomé”, they say from Mararía, who add that perhaps feminism in Lanzarote “can contribute to that polyhedral image that we build today the violet facet, the being and acting for equality that characterized him.”

Mararía assures that from his position as first mayor, Alexis Tejera “always opened when we knocked on his door, he always understood our fight to achieve a society without discrimination, without differences, without gender violence”. He was one more in our demonstrations, affectionate, involved, committed and always showed an egalitarian attitude”, they add from the association.

“Like so many people in Lanzarote, we are finding it hard to say goodbye. But also, like so many people in Lanzarote and outside the island, we will keep an unforgettable memory of his person and his actions. Rest in peace, friend.”
