Outdoor masks are no longer mandatory since this Saturday, as long as the safety distance can be maintained, but many Lanzarote residents have resisted abandoning them, at least on the first day in which the new regulations have entered into force.

In the streets and avenues of Arrecife, faces have begun to be seen uncovered after more than a year, but the majority continued to use masks in the first hours of this Saturday. And the same scene has been repeated in other areas of the island.

The new decree that regulates its use, and that was published this Friday in the Official State Gazette, only requires them to be used indoors or in situations where there are crowds of people, so carrying one always on top is still necessary. In the case of exteriors, it must be used when "it is not possible to maintain a minimum distance of 1.5 meters, except for coexisting groups".

In addition, it is also mandatory in any type of transport, including private vehicles if people who do not live together travel in them.

In mass outdoor events, masks must also be worn if attendees are standing or if they are sitting but the minimum distance is one and a half meters.
