Lieutenant General Emilio Pérez Alamán, who was head of the Canary Islands Command in 2004, passed away this past Tuesday in Madrid.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Defense, Alamán, born in Madrid, entered the General Military Academy of Zaragoza in 1962. Throughout his military career, he held several high positions. Among them, he was, for two years, between 2004 and 2006, chief general of the Canary Islands Command.

In his professional career, he received decorations such as the Grand Cross of the Royal and Military Order of Saint Hermenegild and the Grand Cross of Military Merit.

In 2006, he became a military reserve and since then he was a retired lieutenant general of the Army.

His wake will be open until 7:00 p.m. this Wednesday at the Pozuelo de Alarcón funeral home, in the Community of Madrid.
