The Nursing Union, SATSE Canarias, elected Leopoldo Cejas-Fuentes as general secretary during the XII Autonomous Assembly that the union held in Lanzarote and which was attended by the state president of SATSE, Manuel Cascos, the secretary of organization, Laura Villaseñor, the secretary of union action, Rafael Reig, the president and director of FUDEN, Víctor Aznar and Amelia Amezcua, and all the union delegates from the two Canary Islands provinces.
The state president of SATSE, Manuel Cascos, was in charge of inaugurating the assembly, the highest body of the union, accompanied by José Manuel Llada, the until now autonomous general secretary, who has ceased his functions due to retirement. Llada began his responsibility as provincial secretary of SATSE Tenerife first and as autonomous secretary later, practically from the beginning of SATSE's union activity in the Canary Islands in the late 80s.
During the assembly, Leopoldo Cejas-Fuentes, who held the position of provincial secretary of SATSE in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, was proclaimed general secretary for the next four years with the unanimous support of all the delegates. The new autonomous general secretary thanked for the trust placed in him and dedicated his first words to praise the work carried out by José Manuel Llada in defense of the interests of the profession throughout all these years and, especially, for his dedication and commitment to the Union.
"Priority" issues
Likewise, the new provincial secretary stated that, among the priority issues for the coming years is "the improvement in the hiring conditions of nursing professionals, the increase in staff, continuing to work for the visibility of the nursing profession, the development of specialties, with the creation of places for specialists in the SCS, the call for new OPE processes that provide job stabilization and the recovery of labor rights stolen during the crisis era".
Finally, the delegates also discussed the state of negotiations with the administration, both regional and state. Thus, taking advantage of the attendance of the members of the state Executive, they spoke about the main agreements signed with the Ministry and the state of negotiations on achieving the A1 for nursing, the development of specialties and the future challenges of the union organization. For his part, the president of the Foundation for the development of nursing (FUDEN), Víctor Aznar and the Director of the Foundation, Amelia Amezcua, also presented the strategies that are being carried out in the training field and the new campaigns in which they are working to expand the training offer aimed at members.
