The lawyers of the Administration of Justice continue on strike. This Wednesday they gathered at the house-museum of José Saramago during the visit of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa to demand better remuneration "according to the new functions that have been attributed to them after successive legal reforms." "It is lying to agree and not comply," shouted the protesters.
The protesters also carried banners addressed to the President of the Government in which they could read the messages of "Justice is stopped and Sánchez does nothing", "Saramago would have said yes to dialogue", and "Lawyers of the Administration of Justice of Las Palmas demand that the Ministry of Justice comply with what was agreed. Indefinite strike LAJ".
The strike of the lawyers began on January 24 and has forced the suspension of thousands of trials and hearings throughout Spain, including the trial of the Montecarlo case, which should have been held initially on January 31 and is expected to be delayed until the end of the year or the beginning of 2024.
Despite the letter request to the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands by the Bar Association of Lanzarote on February 14, in which they requested "the materialization of a definitive agreement that puts an end to this paralysis of judicial activity that is causing so much damage to citizens", the strike of the lawyers continues almost two months after its beginning.
