The Titerroy Neighborhood Association is "designing the draft program of events" and the first thing it has announced is who will be the person responsible for proclaiming the festivities of their neighborhood in honor of San José Obrero. "It will be the lawyer Alejandro Díaz," they say. He was born in Arrecife, specifically on Tenerife Street, in 1963. "Son of merchants dedicated to food, he was always linked to Titerroy, since his cousins' grandmother lived in front of Plaza Pio XII and his uncle Juan ran a grocery store on José Pereyra Street, so he came frequently," they explain.
The neighborhood group has extended the date of the communication channel in which proposals from residents will be received for the upcoming neighborhood festivals. The festivals will begin on Thursday, April 27 and end on Monday, May 1. The submission of these proposals must be made before Friday, March 3, 2023. According to them, the objective is to "expand citizen participation from the neighborhood's educational centers and carry out activities that promote good coexistence." He studied Law and currently works as a lawyer on Dr. Juan Negrín Street in Arrecife. In addition, he belongs to the Board of the Lanzarote Bar Association as a member. In 2003 he participated in active politics and was a deputy of the Parliament of the Canary Islands for the Popular Party. In 1988 he married a woman born in Titerroy. From that date on, he moved to live in the neighborhood, in his mother-in-law's house, specifically on Fray Mendo Street. Although since 1981, when he began his courtship, he was directly related to the neighborhood where he spent most of his time. "In addition, his firstborn son was born in the Titerroy neighborhood," they point out from the Association.
"Also through sports he was related to Titerroy since he played handball with the Torrelavega club and was a regular at the 24 hours that were held annually in the neighborhood for these festivals, beyond the weekly clashes with the different teams and categories of the San José Obrero Handball Club. Although he currently lives in Güime, he still maintains contacts with the neighborhood and the people. Díaz is a fan of studying the history and genealogy of the people of Lanzarote, to which he currently dedicates his free time," explain from the neighborhood group.
Next Saturday, March 4, the residents of Titerroy will take an excursion to Fuerteventura to enjoy the daytime Carnivals of the municipality of Corralejo. Among the objectives of the Association is to keep the neighborhood movement alive. In addition, it is intended to keep alive the flame of the struggle for the well-being of the neighbors, promote the participation and integration of the Elderly in the life of the community and promote interpersonal and coexistence relationships of the elderly in their own environment.
