Family, neighbors, friends and personalities from the world of politics and society said their last goodbye to former mayor José María Espino. This Friday at 7:30 p.m. a funeral mass was held in the church of San Ginés. Among the politicians who attended the mass was the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León.
The former socialist mayor passed away on September 14 at the age of 88. He was the first mayor of the capital of the island between 1983 and 1995, he was also a constituent deputy of the Canary Islands Council, provisional parliamentarian and Minister of Employment and Social Services of the Cabildo of Lanzarote. Espino was the only mayor of Arrecife who has managed to win three elections and remain for three consecutive terms. Under his mandate, the Consistorial Houses, the Vía Medular, or the pedestrianization of the bank of the Charco de San Ginés, now known as Avenida César Manrique, were built.
