The island of Lanzarote will once again have a greenhouse on the Experimental Farm of the Cabildo of Lanzarote. “It is being processed now, I hope that in two months the facilities will be set up to be able to put the plantation”, says the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Andrés Stinga, who explains that one of the purposes of this project is “to facilitate the planting of sweet potatoes for the farmer”.

“It has been detected for quite some time that the branch has a type of disease. Some say it is regenerated. We are going to try to go back to the beginning so that farmers' harvests can be better every day”, Stinga points out.

The varieties of sweet potato that will be planted in the greenhouse are the twelve-month and the Cuban. “The Cuban is much more profitable for the farmer and depending on the water it has, it comes out in five or six months. Ours from a lifetime takes longer to produce, twelve months. But today with the available water we can get it out in less time, but the idea is not to lose that variety”, comments Stinga.

The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock points out that the optimal development of the tuber is pursued. “Here we had the twelve-month sweet potato, the Cuban one has entered, it has been regenerating, there has been a mixture. Every day there are more varieties of sweet potato and what is intended is to treat it from a greenhouse, carry out the necessary studies and give the farmer the plant to be able to plant it guaranteeing that it has no virus and that it is not regenerated”, he points out.
