The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government updated this Saturday the situation of the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA), keeping Lanzarote in a situation of pre-alert for high temperatures.
According to the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and other available sources, the heatwave that began on August 6th persists. In the eastern islands, including Lanzarote, maximum temperatures are expected to reach or exceed 30-34 degrees, especially in the interior and mid-altitude areas.
In the rest of the Archipelago, the situation varies depending on the island. Gran Canaria remains on alert, except in its northern strip below 400 meters of altitude. In La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera and Tenerife, a pre-alert has been decreed, except in the northern areas located less than 600 meters, where values considered normal for the summer season are expected.
The authorities recommend taking extreme precautions in the face of this heatwave, avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun in the central hours of the day, maintaining adequate hydration and paying special attention to vulnerable people such as the elderly, children and people with chronic diseases.
The Government of the Canary Islands recalls that these preventive measures seek to minimize the risks associated with adverse weather phenomena and calls on the population to follow official instructions.
