The first three months of the year concluded with 114 women victims of gender violence in Lanzarote. Of these, 63 are Spanish and 51 are of foreign origin. Foreign citizens, proportionally, continue to suffer more from the consequences of physical, psychological, social and economic aggressions of violence against women.
Although foreigners only represent 24% of the women of Lanzarote, according to the INE, they account for 44.7% of the victims of gender violence. This is reflected in the data from the General Council of the Judiciary in Arrecife.
Between January and March, the judicial district of Lanzarote has received 129 reports of gender violence. Of these, the majority (58.9%) were produced by police reports with a complaint from the victim (76) or secondly (24.8%) by reports due to direct intervention by the agents (32).
It should be noted that in no case has the complaint been filed directly by family members and only in nine occasions (7%) were they given by police reports with a complaint from a family member.
In addition, the injury reports gave rise to six complaints and the assistance services to another four, while two have been filed directly by the victim.
During this period, there were 42 waivers to continue with the process of violence against women. Of these, 37% of the waivers were carried out by foreign women and 33% by Spanish women.
Type of aggressions
The most frequent crimes committed by aggressors in Lanzarote are psychic impairment or injuries of minor severity, against their partner or ex-partner, which represent 57.7% of the crimes entered.
In contrast, in 17% of the cases, the abuser exerts physical or psychological violence on his wife or ex-partner, as well as on his children, parents or siblings.
In nine occasions (7.3%) there have been crimes against freedom, that is, in which the aggressor restricts or restricts the freedom of a person without their consent and where illegal detention, kidnapping and threats are included.
Thus, in eleven occasions during the first three months of the year, the abusers have broken the sentence (8.9%) and in another four times, the measures (3.25%).
