The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands maintains this Saturday, March 21, Lanzarote in a situation of pre-alert for pluvial floods, to which is added the pre-alert for coastal floods in force throughout the archipelago, in a context of meteorological instability.

Although the most intense rainfall is expected on the islands with higher relief, episodes of locally moderate rain that may cause water accumulations are not ruled out in Lanzarote, especially in urban areas with limited drainage. This type of situation can lead to isolated floods in streets, garages, or homes.

In parallel, the state of the sea keeps the coastal pre-alert activated, so it is recommended to avoid transiting along promenades, docks or areas close to the coast during episodes of swell or groundswell, as well as to exercise extreme caution in activities on the coast.

From the Government of the Canary Islands, the need to check drains, secure doors and windows, and not park vehicles in ravine beds, even if they remain dry, is insisted upon. It is also advised to reduce travel and not cross flooded areas.

The authorities remind that it is fundamental to follow the official indications, to stay informed through the media and to call 1-1-2 in case of emergency.

The evolution of the situation will continue to be monitored during the next hours.
