Lanzarote pays tribute to Kenneth Gasque with a statue in his honor in the heart of Puerto del Carmen. This act symbolizes the deep bond between an inspiring figure and a town that has embraced and projected universal values such as effort, hospitality, and passion for sports.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, emphasized the close relationship between Gasque's legacy and the tourist town of Puerto del Carmen. "Kenneth saw in this place not only a privileged landscape but a community willing to dream big. Puerto del Carmen represents hospitality, energy, and the capacity for transformation. And Kenneth is, without a doubt, part of that history," said the mayor.
Gasque, founder of Ironman Lanzarote and resident on the island since 1983, turned a personal vision into an international phenomenon that has projected Puerto del Carmen and Lanzarote to the world.
The statue installed in front of the sea is, in the words of the mayor, "a permanent symbol of what we are capable of achieving when enthusiasm and commitment come together. Today, this promenade carries the spirit of Kenneth and also that of an entire town that believes in sport as a bridge between people and in tourism as a human experience."
The Tías City Council celebrates the tribute to a figure who has embodied the values that define Puerto del Carmen: dynamism, welcome, vision, and community.
