The Cabildo of Lanzarote hosted this Wednesday the first session of the awareness conference Living Without Freedom: Rights, culture and education in a penitentiary center, organized by the Association of Law and Justice, in collaboration with the Island Corporation and the Department of Social Welfare of the City Council of Arrecife.

The Councilor for Social Welfare, Marci Acuña, highlighted the importance of carrying out this type of activities "that seek to raise awareness among citizens about the social and legal reintegration of people deprived of their liberty. From the Cabildo of Lanzarote we show our commitment to offer these spaces and meetings that educate and sensitize citizens," he said.

The first session of the event brought together migration expert lawyer Daniel Arencibia to analyze the criminal treatment given to patera skippers and analyzed the different measures carried out in this procedure. Likewise, other speakers such as Carlos Pérez, Nora Ferrer, Irma Ferrer, Graziano Pellegrino, Andrés González Novoa, Ana Suárez and Tharais Armas, addressed issues related to practical cases of prisoners, the actions of a lawyer in matters of insertion and prison regime, as well as different therapies or tools to cope with the life of inmates.

The afternoon session of this event featured different round tables where methodologies were presented on the importance of external agents and volunteering in penitentiary centers.
