As of this Monday, 68.5% of the target population had received both doses of the Covid vaccine, after the rate of inoculation had slowed down in recent weeks.

Last May, Lanzarote was advancing at a dizzying pace in the vaccination against Covid-19, which suggested that the island could achieve the goal of having 70% of the target population immunized sooner than expected. However, July has come to an end without having reached that figure, after the rate of inoculation has dropped significantly.

As of this Monday, August 2nd, the percentage reached has been 68.5%, one and a half points below the goal that the Canary Islands had set. Finally, only El Hierro and La Palma have already exceeded that 70%, in addition to La Graciosa, which was the first to complete the vaccination of its entire target population.

As for the average of the archipelago, it has remained even further behind, with 61.3% of the target population with both doses. In fact, it is still at the bottom of all of Spain, only ahead of the Valencian Community, which has only reached 59.5%. According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health, the national average is 64.7%, that is, 3.4 points above the Canary Islands, but almost four below Lanzarote.

Thus, although this island is still above the national and regional average, the distance is less than it was a few weeks ago. In May, Lanzarote reached record figures and up to 3,000 doses were injected daily, but that amount decreased and in the last 20 days, the average has been just over 1,000 per day.

Almost 200,000 doses administered on the island

In total, as of this Monday, 199,741 doses had been administered on the island, having managed to immunize 94,482 people, which represents 68.5% of the target population. As for those who have at least one dose, they amount to 107,094, which is 77.7%.

By age groups, the one that is progressing the most now is the last one that was opened, the 12 to 19 year olds. 47.9% of that group already has at least one dose and 15.2% have received the full regimen.

In the last three weeks, immunization has also increased in the previous group, from 20 to 29 years old, which already reaches 43.7%, while 59% have at least one dose.

However, progress is becoming less and less in the rest of the groups. In those over 80 and 90 years old, 100% was achieved months ago, but the same has not happened with the rest. In the 70 to 79 group it is at 96.3%, in the 60 to 69 group at 87.8%, in the 50 to 59 group at 88.3% and in the 40 to 49 group only at 76%, despite the fact that vaccination of this group was opened two months ago.

As for the group of 30 to 39 years old, which also started weeks ago, it is at 60.2% with both doses and only 6 points more with at least one.

To try to reach people who have not yet been vaccinated, a vaccination service without prior appointment has just been activated in Lanzarote, just as it already existed in other islands. On the island, it has been located in the Valterra Health Center and can be visited from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., from Monday to Sunday.
