Lanzarote brushed against and exceeded 38 degrees this past weekend in the middle of the heatwave that is hitting the Canary Islands and is preparing for more days of high temperatures at the beginning of August. This has been reported by the Lanzarote Security and Emergencies Consortium, based on data provided by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
The meteorological station that registered the highest temperature in Lanzarote was Playa Blanca, in Yaiza, where 38.3 degrees were reached. Thus, this same source indicates that Gran Canaria was the Canary Island that suffered the most from the rise in temperature, with up to 45.3 degrees.
Meanwhile, Aemet has indicated on its website that the Playa Blanca station reached up to 35.8 degrees at 5:00 PM; in Tías, a maximum of 34; in Arrecife of 31.5 degrees; in La Graciosa of 29.7; San Bartolomé (at the Airport station) up to 35.3 degrees and in Tinajo 30.5. There is no data from Teguise.
To this heat that has been escalating on the island since last Wednesday has been added the arrival of strong gusts of wind. For example, in Arrecife the wind exceeded 80 kilometers per hour in maximum gusts from 7:00 PM onwards. Meanwhile, the average wind speed was between 30 and 50 kilometers per hour throughout the day.
The wind also blew strongly at the Lanzarote Airport station, where from 4:00 PM onwards the average speed rose to 45 kilometers per hour, while the maximum gusts were between 70 and 80 kilometers per hour.
