Lanzarote En Pie denounces the "vandalism" suffered by the residents of the "El Aguaresío" alley

"Broken flowerpots and streetlights, remains of dirt, urine on the facade and even blood splattering walls and floors are part of the nights of the residents of the area every weekend," the party states.

The councilors of Lanzarote En Pie (LEP) in the Arrecife City Council have denounced "the constant annoyances" to which the residents of the Luis Hernández Fuentes alley, "El aguaresío", located in La Puntilla del Charco de San Ginés, near the surroundings of the Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) of the Church of San Ginés, are subjected.

"According to residents of this area, one of the most charming corners of the city of Arrecife, every day they suffer the lack of solidarity of many citizens, some of them councilors, advisors and staff of the Arrecife City Council itself, who use the spaces reserved for residents as private parking," the party states.

However, it specifies that "the days of greatest annoyance are suffered during the weekend, in which the environment becomes a kind of party room where anything goes and where you can find everything from bottles, glasses and cigarette butts among the plants and on the ground, to vomit, spit on the doors or individuals urinating on the facades of the houses located in the referred space." In fact, they maintain that they have found "even remains and splashes of blood on the walls and floors as a result of a fight, such as the one that occurred last Saturday, in addition to the noise generated by the nocturnal activity of the area."

In addition, Lanzarote en Pie maintains that "some denounce that from some bar in the area, tables and chairs are placed, without any shame, in front of the entrance to their homes."

"For the moment, the complaints of the residents have fallen on deaf ears and those that have been transferred to our municipal group denounce that, when the weekend arrives, they almost have to lock themselves in their homes; most of the residents are elderly. The helplessness to which they are subjected has reached the point of having to pay out of their own pockets for the installation of small lighting to be able to access their homes since the City Council has not replaced the two streetlights that were knocked down by the traffic of merchandise trucks that usually circulate through those streets," the formation questions.

LEP recalls that the alley of Luis Hernández Fuentes, “El Aguaresío”, is “one of the most picturesque places in the city of Arrecife” and emphasizes that “the maintenance has always been in charge of the residents who try, without more help than their own, to preserve a corner of which the people of Arrecife feel proud.” “However,” they add, “weddings, photos for electoral campaigns, municipal events and all kinds of occurrences are held in the area without taking into account that the space is residential.”

"The only thing the residents ask is that their demands be taken into account and that a solution be found to continue preserving the conditions that make this alley so special for the enjoyment of all," the party states. For all this, it anticipates that from Lanzarote En Pie they will request the government group of Astrid Pérez to take "the appropriate measures so that these circumstances do not continue to be repeated week after week causing the discomfort of the residents while the vandals roam freely in that sensitive area of the city, from the point of view of historical and cultural heritage."
