This Saturday, November 26, the X Race against Gender Violence took place. The participants of the sports event met at the Arrecife Fairgrounds to begin the event organized by the Cabildo de Lanzarote with the capital City Council and the Canary Islands Institute for Equality on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The race brought together hundreds of men and women of all ages who, with their participation, showed their rejection of gender violence. “Thank you all for joining us in a race that comes to claim with absolute clarity and with a single voice that Lanzarote is against sexist violence”, said the president of the first island corporation, María Dolores Corujo.

Likewise, Corujo conveyed her support to the victims and expressed the commitment of the Cabildo de Lanzarote to “continue working against all types of discrimination based on gender and, especially, against its most serious manifestation: sexist violence”. “Lanzarote raises its voice and raises it against gender violence. Not one more”, he added.

The councilors of Equality and Social Rights of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Myriam Barros and Isabel Martín respectively, expressed their satisfaction with the high participation registered in the race, which was intended to raise awareness among the Lanzarote society and convey the need for unity against the violence suffered by women in order to, together, achieve its eradication.

The X Race against Gender Violence began at approximately 12:30 p.m., and consisted of a route of approximately 2.5 kilometers along the Arrecife avenue, with departure and arrival at the Fairgrounds.

Before the start of the race, there was a presentation of commemorative banners for the International Day for the Elimination of Gender Violence made by schools and institutes. Likewise, the reading of a manifesto by the authorities took place and a warm-up was carried out for the race to the rhythm of zumba.

In addition, taking advantage of the space chosen for the event, three exhibitions with images were also installed aimed at raising awareness among the population against gender violence and prostitution.
