The platform Lanzarote has a limit has called a new demonstration against mass tourism next Sunday, October 20. The island of volcanoes thus joins the mobilizations planned for that same Saturday in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, following in the wake of last April 20.
The event will take place at 12:00 noon in Puerto del Carmen, departing from the Hotel Fariones, passing through "the most touristy avenue on the island" and arriving at Las Naciones Square, in Los Pocillos.
Five months after the historic mobilizations of April 20, the convening groups state that "politicians and institutions continue to bet on a predatory tourism model." Thus, they point out that "they continue to promote unlimited growth, while the population continues to suffer the consequences: more roads, more hotels, more tourists, more destruction of ecosystems, more precarious work and more poverty."
The citizen call describes the positions of local representatives as "hypocrisy" and points out that "they filled their mouths speaking of rethinking the model' but the problems have not stopped getting worse. As with the awards and distinctions and attempts to regulate projects declared illegal by the Justice".
In this line, they ask "all people who are aware of the damage suffered by our land, to take to the streets on October 20 with more force than ever, to make history again and make it clear that this has only just begun."
"We are not going to stop until we achieve the change that the Canary Islands needs," he says in a statement.
