Lanzarote and La Graciosa woke up this Thursday with the presence of intense haze that has even considerably reduced visibility on both islands. The cause of this situation is a tongue of dust in suspension coming from the Sahara desert that entered the southeast of the archipelago from early this morning.
Despite the large amount of haze, air quality has not been particularly affected so far. According to the Air Quality Control and Monitoring Network of the Canary Islands, air quality in Lanzarote is good regarding particles less than 2.5 micrometers and reasonably good for microparticles less than 10 micrometers.
This phenomenon was joined this Thursday by the presence of low clouds this morning, which caused a greater reduction in visibility. Throughout the day, Aemet predicts that clear spells will open up in the afternoon. In addition, temperatures will remain high and could reach 30 degrees in some areas, especially in the southern zone.
Given this situation, people sensitive to this type of episode - such as children, the elderly, and people with chronic respiratory or cardiovascular diseases - are recommended to take the following measures:
