Hundreds of people gathered this Sunday, March 8, in the Canary Islands Park of Arrecife to participate in the demonstration called for International Women's Day. The day, framed within 8M Lanzarote, brought together feminist collectives, associations, and citizens under the slogan of defending conquered rights and continuing to advance towards a society free of violence and inequalities.

The activities began at 11:30 hours with a t-shirt and banner workshop, in which the participants prepared protest messages and feminist symbols that later accompanied the march. One hour later, at 12:30, the demonstration started through the streets of Arrecife.

During the call, the organizers expressed their concern about the rise of hate speech, sexism, and the advance of political positions that they consider contrary to equality. Faced with this, they defended social mobilization and the unity of the feminist movement as a response.

“Given the advance of fascism, machismo and hate speech, feminism responds with struggle, unity and dignity,” they stated from the call, insisting that “not a single step back will be taken on the rights conquered.”

The mobilization developed in a protest and festive atmosphere, with banners, chants, and messages in favor of equality. The participants demanded the need to continue occupying public space every March 8 to make visible the inequalities that still persist and demand policies that guarantee a life free of violence for women.
