Jorge Cabrera Luzardo from Lanzarote, artistically known as Jorge Caluz, has been selected to represent Spain in the final of the International Low-Vision Song Contest (ILSC) 2024, a competition that promotes the creativity of blind musicians or those with severe visual impairments. The artist, originally from Lanzarote, won the national phase with his emotional song 'Forget You', demonstrating once again the talent that the Canary Islands treasure.
The contest, organized by Views International in collaboration with the German Federation of the Blind, will bring together participants from 23 countries, including Germany, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine. The grand final will be broadcast on May 16 via YouTube, where Jorge Caluz will defend his song with the hope of winning.
From Lanzarote to the world: The trajectory of an exceptional artist
Born in 1999, Jorge Caluz discovered his passion for music at a very young age. At the age of three, he began his piano studies at the TOCOYMA school in Lanzarote, where he developed an exceptional ear that compensated for his visual impairment. At just 15 years old, he decided to focus on singing and composition, training with renowned professionals such as José Manuel Clar.
His talent took him to Madrid, where he studied Modern Music Performance at the Alfonso X El Sabio University, and later to London, where he perfected his vocal technique at the prestigious Institute of Contemporary Music Performance. Despite his youth, he has already performed on emblematic stages such as Los Jameos del Agua, the Sala Sol in Madrid, and the Teatro de San Bartolomé, in addition to selling out tickets for his first solo concert in Lanzarote in 2023.
Currently, Jorge Caluz is working on his first EP and works as a resident musician in hotels and events, combining his artistic career with his tireless spirit of overcoming challenges.
A recognition of diversity and talent
The ILSC is not only a platform for artists with visual impairments but also a reminder that art has no limits. For Jorge, this achievement is another step in his career: "Music is my way of connecting with the world, and this contest is an opportunity to inspire others," he says.
