The Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has conveyed his official condolences to the family and friends of Jaime Abdul-Jalbar de León, who died this Monday, September 22, in the capital of Lanzarote after not overcoming a long illness.
Abdul-Jalbar de León leaves a deep mark on the society of Lanzarote, where he was widely recognized for his commitment to local commerce, his passion for chess, and his promotion of the performing arts and culture. For decades, he was an endearing reference in the social and cultural life of Arrecife.
In addition to his role as an entrepreneur, he ran a well-known fabric and fashion business with his family on Hermanos Zerolo Street, corner of Francos, in the heart of the capital. His closeness, entrepreneurial spirit, and contribution to the cultural and commercial fabric of the city earned him the affection and respect of several generations of people from Lanzarote.
The mayor especially wanted to send his condolences to the current accidental secretary of the Arrecife City Council, Jaime Abdul, son of the deceased, thus showing the institutional closeness and solidarity in this moment of pain.
“On behalf of the Arrecife City Council, all the workers, the Municipal Corporation, and myself as mayor, I convey our deepest condolences to the family. Jaime Abdul-Jalbar was a beloved, committed, and highly valued person in our city,” said Yonathan de León.
