Isabel Delgado Betancor, Siona, 87 years old and a resident of Las Cuestas, has been recognized as Rural Woman of Tías 2022. In this way, she has become the protagonist of the International Day of Rural Women, which has been celebrated in the municipality since 2019 with the recognition of women linked to the primary sector who have left their mark on their closest environment.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, on behalf of the government group, congratulated Siona Delgado Betancor and her family this Friday in the plenary hall of the City Council. In addition, a video interview was shown to the distinguished woman, who received a bouquet of flowers and a commemorative parchment.
Siona Delgado Betancor was born on June 8 in Haría and has spent most of her life in Tías, in the Las Cuestas area, after marrying Gabriel Díaz Álvarez, a native of Tías. "With beauty, humor and elegance, this singer and mother of four children dares to recite couplets or sing songs at times, in addition to remembering the moments of work in the field," they point out from the Consistory.

"I have a wounded heart and the wounds hurt me, and the wounds, and the wounds hurt me, that I must be here, the one who can heal them," sings Siona while talking about the numerous letters she received from suitors. She worked, like many, planting tomato plants, chives and millet, after preparing the sancocho first thing in the morning to take it to the field and continue working.
