Hundreds of self-employed workers gather in Lanzarote to demand better working conditions

Hundreds of self-employed workers in Lanzarote have demanded decent working conditions this Sunday, November 30, in a demonstration in Arrecife. The self-employed workers mobilized in Lanzarote to demand fair working conditions and social protection comparable to that of any salaried employee.

The mobilization, driven on the island thanks to the Association of Commerce and Entrepreneurs Ajei (ACEA) along with A.E.P. Tías (Association of Entrepreneurs and SMEs of Tías), took place in a peaceful, family-friendly atmosphere with significant participation from the local commercial and business fabric.

This act was part of a coordinated national mobilization, which brought together professionals from all sectors in 21 cities across the country, including Lanzarote.

 

Demands

• Immediate and fair review of self-employment fees

Real reduction of the tax burden, with special attention to the IGIC in the Canary Islands

• Social protection comparable to that of employees

• **Urgent application of the IGIC exemption** for invoices below the equivalent legal limit• Effective support for small businesses and local entrepreneurship

• Reduction of administrative hurdles and institutional response times

• Real right to **work-life balance**• Access to paid leave in situations of serious illness or bereavement

• Psychological support and financial resources in circumstances of personal or business crisis

From ACEA and A.E.P. Tías "confirm their commitment to continue representing the self-employed collective of Lanzarote until the administrations address their demands at an effective dialogue table".

"This is just the beginning. We are not claiming privileges. We are claiming justice and dignity for those who, with our work, sustain a large part of Lanzarote's local and tourist economy," they conclude.
