Workers from the Hospitality and Commerce sector of Lanzarote gathered this Thursday morning in front of the Casa Amarilla in Arrecife to protest the expiration of "most of the agreements", and request "a salary increase in line with the CPI". In addition to this mobilization convened by Comisiones Obreras, the union has organized "informative pickets" at the Lanzarote airport.
The demand at the airport has been convened by the support of the airport workers from the companies Swissport Spain Aviation, Swissport Handling, Canariensis, Ryanair, Pansfood, SSP (Select Services Parnet) and Multiservios Aeroportuarios, to the call of the Hospitality and Commerce sector, through their Union Representatives.
According to Comisiones Obreras, both at the gathering on Calle Real and at the airport's "informative pickets", the general public was informed of "the precarious situation in which thousands of Hospitality and Commerce workers find themselves". The union claims that "most of the Agreements have been expired since 2019" and that salary increases "are blocked by the employers' associations".

According to the general secretary of CCOO, Vanessa Frahija, on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, this situation is causing workers to "lose purchasing power" and adds that the employers' blockade "is unjustified". "This is not because of the pandemic, most of the agreements expired in 2019", criticized the General Secretary. The union hopes for "an acceleration of the negotiations of the collective agreements" to carry out the necessary salary increases "to be able to assume the increase in family expenses, due to the disproportionate increase in the cost of living".
