Lanzarote has registered nine new Covid outbreaks in the last week, seven associated with the arrival of boats with positives on board and two others with socially vulnerable groups. This was announced by the Ministry of Health, which in the Canary Islands has reported a total of 81 new outbreaks with 346 associated cases.
In the archipelago as a whole, this represents a new decrease compared to the 131 reported seven days ago and a significant decrease compared to the 141 reported 14 days ago. This decrease is in line with the decrease in the Accumulated Incidence (AI) throughout the Archipelago and the decrease in daily cases.
To the 81 new outbreaks are added the 23 that remain under monitoring, counting those that have been closed and those that are added from the previous week. In total, the new outbreaks add up to 346 associated cases, a decrease of 267 cases compared to the 613 reported last week.
Of these, 38 have occurred on the island of Gran Canaria (31 less than the previous week); 26 in Tenerife (19 less than last week); nine in Lanzarote (six more than the previous week) and eight in Fuerteventura (three less than last week).
By areas, social outbreaks total 27, among which one registered in Santa Lucía de Tirajana stands out as the most numerous, with family branching, with nine people affected.
Social outbreaks are followed in number by family outbreaks, with 26, all of them related to different homes. In this sense, it should be noted that the trend of outbreaks with fewer associated cases continues and most of them have less than five people, although two registered in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria stand out as more numerous, with six and seven associated cases, and another in Mogán with six affected.
Family outbreaks are followed in number by those linked to socially vulnerable groups with 14, of which 12 are directly related to the arrival of cayucos or boats with positives on board. Of these, seven are in Lanzarote, two in Gran Canaria and two in Fuerteventura. The other two outbreaks of socially vulnerable groups are located on the island of Lanzarote.
There are ten work-related outbreaks, distributed among construction companies (2), restaurants (3), commerce, the food industry, home care, other sectors and on a cargo ship, the latter being the most numerous of the work-related outbreaks reported, with five affected.
In the health and social-health fields, an outbreak is reported at the General Hospital of Fuerteventura, which affects three people, and three in social-health centers: one at the Ballesol Residence in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which affects seven people, including four residents and two workers; another at the Nuestra Señora del Amparo residence, in Icod de los Vinos, with three affected, two of them residents; and an outbreak at the Bonanza Residence in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with five affected, four residents and one worker.
Of the outbreaks under monitoring, two of mixed origin stand out (where work, social and family environments are mixed), reported in August in Mogán and Artenara, which already have 35 and 29 associated cases, respectively. Also noteworthy are two reported last week, one mixed in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria which already has 12 affected and another social with family branching in Gáldar which already has eight affected.
