Lanzarote has registered five new Covid outbreaks in the last week, according to the Ministry of Health. In the Canary Islands as a whole, there have been 62 new outbreaks in the last week, which is a further decrease compared to those reported seven days ago, which was 81. This decrease is in line with the trend of decreasing Cumulative Incidence (IA) throughout the Archipelago and the decrease in daily cases.

To the 62 new outbreaks are added the 16 that remain under monitoring, counting those that have been closed and those that are added from the previous week. In total, the new outbreaks add up to 333 associated cases, 13 less than those reported last week.

Of these, 40 have occurred on the island of Gran Canaria (two more than the previous week); 9 in Tenerife (17 less than last week); five in Lanzarote (four less than the previous week) and seven in Fuerteventura (one less than last week) and one in El Hierro.

By areas, 20 family outbreaks linked to different homes, 16 from socially vulnerable groups, 14 social, seven work-related and two educational with family ramifications in both cases have been reported, of which one occurred in Fuerteventura and has nine cases and the other in Gran Canaria with 24 positives. In addition, there are two health outbreaks, one of them with three cases at the Dr. Negrín Hospital affecting two patients and a family member and another at La Candelaria with four cases, of which three are patients and one is a worker. A sports outbreak has also been reported, related to the practice of football with three positives.

Most of the outbreaks have less than 10 cases except for six that have 10 or more cases, the largest of which is the outbreak of educational origin with 24 affected. The next largest occurred in the family environment with 13, 12 and 10 cases registered in Gran Canaria in the first two cases and the third in Fuerteventura. The other two largest with 11 affected each occurred in Gran Canaria among socially vulnerable groups.

Characteristics of outbreaks by area

This week, family outbreaks, with a total of 20, are the most numerous, although most of them have less than 10 associated cases, except for the three described above.

Next in number are those linked to socially vulnerable groups with 16, two more than the previous week, and all have a direct relationship with the arrival of cayucos or boats with positives on board. Of these, nine are in Gran Canaria, four in Lanzarote, one in El Hierro, one in Fuerteventura and one in Tenerife.

Of the 14 social outbreaks, the trend continues that these are outbreaks with fewer associated cases and most of them have an average of five people.

Regarding the seven work-related outbreaks, the same pattern of few associated cases is repeated, the largest being one of six cases reported on a ship in Gran Canaria. The outbreaks are distributed among construction companies (1), restaurants (1), agricultural sector (1), cargo ship (1), among others.

Of the outbreaks under monitoring, two of mixed origin stand out (where work, social and family environments are mixed), reported in Mogán, which already has 38 affected and in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with 16 positives. In addition, another in Gran Canaria of a social-health nature has reached 21 cases in the Ballesol residence.
