The Haría City Council has expressed its condolences for the deaths in the shipwreck of a dinghy that occurred on Thursday night off the coast of Órzola and has publicly thanked the citizens and services involved in the rescue efforts for "the commitment and involvement they have shown".

The mayoress of Haría, Chaxiraxi Niz, regrets this tragedy and expresses, on behalf of the City Council, "the deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims" and her "total willingness to collaborate to provide them with adequate care". "It is a moment of pain for Haría and for the entire population of Lanzarote. The humanitarian drama of irregular migration to the islands must be stopped as soon as possible," says the mayoress.

The City Council also conveys its sincere thanks to the rescue and emergency teams that participated in the operation, including the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, as well as representatives of various NGOs and citizens of the town who traveled to the site to assist in the care of the 41 survivors of the shipwreck, including 19 women and seven children.

The City Council recalls that already in November of last year, Haría lamented a similar accident in the same area of the northern coast, in which, after the overturning of a boat, nine people died.
