Francisco José Navarro Rodríguez has been invested as Honorary Puppy of the Order of the Canarian Puppy of Lanzarote by the president of this association, Marcial Morales Cabrera, in an act prior to the traditional Christmas dinner, which took place this Tuesday, December 3rd at the Hotel Lancelot Playa in Arrecife.
By awarding the distinction of Honorary Puppy, the Order seeks to recognize the trajectory of those institutions and people who stand out for rescuing, living, transmitting, and defending the Canarian identity and the customs and traditions of Lanzarote, as well as for the conservation and dissemination of values linked to Canarian culture.
Francisco José Navarro has distinguished himself by a generous, selfless, and constant dedication to all causes of popular culture in Lanzarote. A radio announcer by profession, he received the Gold Badge of the Cabildo of Lanzarote in 2017 upon retiring after a long and fruitful career of 44 years.
Essential in the vast majority of events related to traditional culture and folklore, he has never refused any neighborhood association, collective, or institution that required his collaboration. In addition to presenting galas and events of all kinds, he has been the town crier of numerous festivals.
For decades, he has been the official presenter of the Lanzarote Island Murgas Contest, becoming practically an icon for the carnival and for the murgas of Lanzarote.
Francisco José Navarro, champion of the traditions and popular culture of Lanzarote, is the Ajey Award for social work and Adoptive Son of Arrecife, and has become over time the authentic official chronicler of the popular and traditional culture of Lanzarote.
The award winner thanked for the distinction and vindicated the need to "preserve and promote various cultural manifestations, and to avoid the disappearance or deformation of our cultural heritage, such as the Canarian speech".
Throughout the trajectory of the Order of the Canarian Puppy of Lanzarote, the craftsman Juan Brito, the César Manrique Foundation, the artist César Manrique posthumously, the La Era restaurant, the El Patio Agricultural Museum, the Torrelavega Cultural, Recreational and Sports Society, the painter Santiago Alemán, the Los Campesinos Folkloric Group, and the timple player Benito Cabrera have been distinguished so far.
Also the Tanit Museum, the Historical Archive of Teguise, Los Diabletes, the businessman Juan Rosa, the craftsman Eulogio Concepción, the Marinera Los Buches Parranda, the Pancho Lasso Art School, the naturalist Alejandro Perdomo Placeres, the aeronautical engineer Dionisio Canomanuel, the El Grifo Wine Museum, the engineer Manuel Díaz Rijo, the photographer Javier Reyes Acuña, the Trío Lanzarote, the wrestler Inocencio Morales Pollo de La Vegueta, and the timple player Domingo Rodríguez El Colorao.
Immediately before, at 7:00 p.m., the closing assembly of the year took place, in which the management carried out was reported and the plan of action for the coming year was proposed.
