Four boats rescued near the coast of Lanzarote

210 people were traveling in the boats, two of the migrants have been evacuated to Molina Orosa

Maritime Rescue has rescued four boats with up to 159 people near the coast of Lanzarote, according to the Emergency Consortium.

In the first boat, 49 people were traveling, all men of Maghreb origin, and in apparent good health. The rescue of this boat occurred at approximately 04:38 hours, about 30 nautical miles east of Arrecife. The boat was located through the satellite phone on board the boat.

In the second boat, 50 people were rescued, four men and one Maghreb woman, all of them in apparent good health. The boat was located 37 nautical miles east of Arrecife.

In the third boat that was intercepted, 60 people were traveling, 58 men, one woman and one minor, of sub-Saharan origin, all of them in apparent good health. The boat was located about 65 nautical miles east of Lanzarote.

In addition, the Salvamar Al Nair transferred the migrants from a fourth boat to Puerto Naos where they were attended by the Red Cross. In total, the organization intervened and helped 210 people on the morning of this Wednesday.

47 Red Cross volunteers, an ambulance, National Police agents, Port Police, Maritime Rescue, the Canary Islands Health Service and Frontex participated in the operation.

It had been almost a month since a boat arrived in Lanzarote. The last two were rescued by Maritime Rescue on March 17, one of them 12 nautical miles northeast of the island. In the first one, 59 people were traveling, including one woman, all of Maghreb origin. And in the second, 53 people, including two women and 6 minors, all of Moroccan origin. Two of the migrants were evacuated to Molina Orosa due to different pathologies.
