The Culture Councilor of the Yaiza City Council, Daniel Medina, has denounced the theft of five camels and a shepherd from the Yaiza nativity scene. "It is a joke in bad taste, not because of the material, but because of the work that the municipal employees have been doing to have the most traditional Nativity Scene in Lanzarote ready," Medina explained this Monday on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.

Medina alerted of the theft through his Facebook account, where he sarcastically wrote that "the five camels from the Yaiza nativity scene had escaped" and added that "it is shameful that they have been taken, it is not just about figures, it is the heritage of everyone of which we should be proud to keep intact the legacy of more than 40 years of having the Nativity Scene with the most tradition in Lanzarote."

To avoid future thefts, the councilor has announced that "they are connecting the cameras, which arrived a little late." In addition, he pointed out that, while the Nativity Scene was being set up, they experienced a similar situation. "While the sand mountains were being put up, there were already people taking materials. Two people were caught loading the car with some rofe and the police were able to catch them."

Regarding when the Nativity Scene will have the missing figures again, the councilor said that he does not know the date because "the town hall cannot go to a store and buy them", as a private individual could do. "All the figures of the Yaiza Nativity Scene have been bought outside and now we are with expense proposals," Medina concludes.
