Eighteen artists present the collective exhibition “Dismantling Gender” at the IES Playa Honda

In it, they reflect on the concept of "gender" as a social construct "clearly hierarchical based on a power imbalance"

A total of 18 artists present the collective exhibition “Dismantling Gender”, in the El Hall Room, located in the IES Playa Honda, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is celebrated on November 25. In the exhibition they reflect on the concept of “gender” as a social construct “clearly hierarchical based on a power imbalance”.

The 18 artists are: Ventura Alemán, Pepe Betancort, Fabio Carreiro, Guacimara Hernández, Marianna Lopes, David Machado, Sandra March, Evelina Martín, Judith Morales, Raquel Plans, Ana Quintana, Damián Rodríguez, Jacqueline Sánchez, Julia Sosa Díaz, Fefa Toledo, Óscar Valido, Rosa Vera and Mark Zhi. All of them question, from writing, photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, collage and video, "the normativity of gender to open debate and avenues of reflection that are so necessary in our educational community." 

The mayor, Alexis Tejera, encourages all neighbors and visitors “to get to know this collective exhibition in the Hall room, always open to creating debate and publicizing the artistic work that is done on this island.”

The Councilor for Culture, Isidro Pérez, congratulates IES Playa Honda for this new exhibition, in which “the gaze is opened to different artistic formats seeking a nexus and collective reflection.”

The exhibition “Dismantling Gender” will remain open during the months of November and December and can be visited from Monday to Friday in the afternoon, calling 928 81 90 52 in advance.
