Ecologistas en Acción has just presented allegations to the Plan for the Management of Natural Resources (PORN) of the Chinijo Archipelago. The organization denounces the inclusion in the PORN proposal of an Extractive Activity Zone in El Jable, near Muñique but "in the heart of the Natura 2000 Network".

"This area, of high natural value, has been totally arbitrarily excluded from the zonings with greater protection, despite the fact that its characteristics make its inclusion in the contiguous Zone A essential or, at least, its zoning within the Ba category, excluding the possibility of extractive activities within it", they state from Ecologistas en Acción.

In this regard, the organization states that "the extraction activity in El Jable is causing a negative impact on the habitat of the Canary subspecies of the Houbara bustard, by causing an area of exclusion in one of the main distribution areas of the species in Lanzarote".

Thus, it assures that this is demonstrated by a report from the Research Group on Ecology and Conservation of Birds of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) sent by Ecologistas en Acción. In addition, it recalls that the Canary subspecies of the Houbara bustard is considered "in danger of extinction".

In parallel, Ecologistas en Acción has requested that the procedures for the authorization of three new open-pit mining operations in El Jable be suspended as a precautionary measure, "which would involve a significant transformation of the physical and biological reality that could make it impossible or significantly difficult to achieve the objectives of the Plan".
