Comisiones Obreras Lanzarote has positively assessed the concentration of workers in Playa Honda, in San Bartolomé, to defend a "decent" agreement for commerce, since the current one has been expired since December 31, 2023.

The union has celebrated that the call for concentration, which was preceded by the slogan of union action Commerce moves, met "exceeded" the expectations generated. "It had a wide participation of workers in the sector, who made their voices heard demanding a breakthrough in collective bargaining," he stressed.

Alejandro Domínguez, general secretary of the Insular Union of CCOO of Lanzarote, commented at the concentration that "the conflict arises from the attitude of the employers, who intend to cut acquired rights, such as the temporary disability supplement, in addition to showing a clear lack of will to improve the working conditions of the sector."

Comisones Obreras has recalled that currently commerce workers in Lanzarote suffer "an unattractive reality": 365 days of work a year for a salary of just 1,290 euros net per month (including the pro rata of extra payments).

From CCOO of Lanzarote they have denounced that these conditions make "stability and dignity of the sector increasingly difficult, and we reiterate the urgent need to reach an agreement that recognizes the value of the work that sustains thousands of families on our island and more than 30,000 people in the province of Las Palmas."

During the concentration, Alejandro Domínguez has announced in turn, the next union action in Lanzarote, which will take place on September 10. The union has announced a caravan of cars in favor of the vote on the reduction of the working day, which will be voted on that same day, and which seeks to approve the bill so that the reduction of the weekly working day goes to 37.5 hours.
