The digital documentation service of images and audiovisuals managed by the Data Center of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Digital Memory of Lanzarote, has published a special collection of the Fiestas de San Ginés in Arrecife, with images, videos and old documents, some of which date from 1904.

The Councilor of the Area, Ascensión Toledo, states that this audiovisual project "is the best way to preserve our past, and allows us to relive old traditions and significant moments for the community." In addition, she values one of the objectives of the initiative, "not to forget the cultural heritage of Lanzarote."

The San Ginés special covers more than a century of these celebrations. Throughout the collection, 101 images, 11 documents, eight videos, one audio and 14 data are shown in which the evolution of these traditional festivals is appreciated over time.

'You are part of the history of Lanzarote'

Through Digital Memory of Lanzarote, the Cabildo continues with the awareness campaign You are part of the history of Lanzarote with the aim of encouraging citizens to transfer old audiovisual material, mainly photographs and videos, for free digitization.

The main objective, as pointed out by the Councilor of Ascensión Toledo, "is to restore old files and digitize them in high resolution to ensure their conservation. In addition, the original image is returned, along with a rehabilitated copy, to the owners." "Thanks to the recovery and digitization of these photographs, we contribute to the preservation of the historical heritage of our Island," concludes Toledo.

Currently, this initiative has digitized thousands of files, which are published on the web, where you can freely view more than 15,962 photographs, 858 documents, 424 videos and 85 audios and 2846 data.

Among the most outstanding collections of the Memory are those entitled Treasures of the Island, The best of Javier Reyes, César Manrique, and Domestic films and amateur cinema of Lanzarote, among many others.
