The Plenary of the Tías City Council unanimously approved this Tuesday the motion presented by the CC councilor, which demanded that surveillance and cleaning be reinforced in the nightlife areas of Puerto del Carmen, which are concentrated in the Varadero and Centro Atlántico area.

Both the opposition and the government group agreed to express their "concern about the presence of minors on public roads consuming alcohol and violating containment laws against Covid-19 or protection of citizen security." In this regard, the mayor, José Juan Cruz, revealed that "several alcohol sales establishments have already been located and are in the process of being reported for selling to minors."

"We need everyone's collaboration," declared the mayor, who spoke on behalf of the government group to announce his support for this motion. In addition, he explained that the City Council has approved this month a budget modification of 22,000 euros to be able to face the payment of overtime to the Local Police, so that they can intervene on weekends in the nightlife areas. In this regard, the City Council recalls that in the last two weekends, municipal agents have issued a total of 70 sanctions.

"We understand that young people want to have fun, but they have to do it complying with the rules. Many of these fines, of between 200 and 300 euros, will soon reach the parents and they will have to take responsibility for them, because their children are minors and have violated citizen security regulations," warned the mayor.

To carry out these devices, the City Council also requested the support of the Civil Guard of Puerto del Carmen and the rapid intervention group of this body. In addition, the government group affirms that the cleaning service has also been reinforced during the weekend in these nightlife areas.

The second deputy mayor and councilor for Social Services, Nicolás Saavedra, stated for his part that from his area they are working with a specialized team to act "with the different addictions that are being detected among minors."

Solidarity with La Palma

During the Plenary held this Tuesday, an institutional declaration of the City Council was also unanimously approved to show its solidarity with the island of La Palma and with those affected by the volcanic eruption of Cumbre Vieja.

"The members of this corporation, on behalf of the residents of the municipality of Tías, express our affection, love and empathy with the population of La Palma, who are currently experiencing a devastating tragedy. Our heart is with all the people of La Palma and, fundamentally, with all those affected by the loss of plots, land, agricultural and livestock farms, water deposits, infrastructures, warehouses, corrals, shops, schools, houses, neighborhoods and memories."

"We want to tell them that they are not alone, that we also add our value and our strength of spirit and serenity from a sister island. We put ourselves at the disposal of the authorities and citizens to collaborate and help them in whatever is necessary," the declaration adds.
