Juane Ventura from Lanzarote has denounced the delay of "one hour" of an ambulance to attend to an elderly woman injured in Playa Blanca. As La Voz already published, the 91-year-old woman was injured this Tuesday after falling from an electric car she was driving near the Playa Blanca Bus Station.

The citizen has revealed to the newspaper how the events unfolded. He was leaving work, around 10:45 a.m., when he came across the accident and the elderly woman "lying in the middle of the road," he said. The British tourist was accompanied by her husband, a 94-year-old man, who tried to lift her after the fall. "The man suffers from dementia and had a blow to the head," the reason why the man had to come to the aid of the elderly woman. "I had to get out of the car and I realized the severity of the accident," he added.

According to the witness, the wound had "the leg practically broken and very damaged by the car falling on top of it", in addition to the "amount of blood" she was losing. "You could even see the bone, I had no choice but to apply a tourniquet", he pointed out. To be able to perform the first aid maneuver, the young man had to "stop a girl who was driving a scooter to borrow a belt", he revealed. A crucial action that has prevented the "possible death of the elderly woman", he recalled. "I had to calm the woman down, I feared for her life", he pointed out.

What has truly outraged the witness has been the amount of time it took for the health services to arrive in the area. "Almost an hour to arrive to attend to the woman", he confessed. The citizen recalled that the affected person "could have been anyone in his family" and demands solutions to what happened. "Nobody deserves something like that, it doesn't seem fair to me," he added. In addition, he criticizes the health service that currently exists on the island. "I don't think we have the decent healthcare we need."

The injured woman's husband was also unable to receive the attention he deserved. Given the delay of the ambulance, the witness had to opt to assist the most seriously injured of the couple. "I couldn't attend to him, I didn't have that many resources, I had to focus on the woman, who was the most affected," he said. In that critical situation, the young man did everything he could to keep the woman calm. "I tried to calm her down, she was very nervous."

Finally, the ambulance arrived at the scene and transferred the injured woman to the Molina Orosa Hospital to perform an emergency operation.
