The workers of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers paid tribute to César Manrique this past Thursday, April 24, coinciding with his birthday.

"It is a date that should be proudly marked on our collective calendar, because on a day like today, in 1919, one of the most illustrious sons of our land was born: Don César Manrique Cabrera," they stated in a statement shared with La Voz.

From the FSOC, and especially from the Works Council of the CACT members, they wanted to "raise their voices to remember, honor and celebrate the life of who was not only an exceptional artist, but also the visionary soul that helped shape the identity of this island," they indicate. "Because thanks to him, Lanzarote is not only recognized for its natural beauty, but also for the deep respect with which art, architecture and landscape have been integrated," they continue.

"César was not only a creator of works, but an tireless defender of our essence. His legacy taught us that we can advance without destroying, that modernity is not at odds with our roots, and that nature is not something to be exploited, but something to be loved, protected and honored," they point out.

"He himself asked us to remember the day of his birth more than the day of his departure. Today we fulfill that wish. Today we celebrate that, thanks to his sensitivity and commitment, Lanzarote is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Today we remember that, without his voice, without his struggle, without his art, this island would not be what it is," the employees emphasize.

"Therefore, we invite every neighbor, every family, every corner of this land to remember César Manrique as what he was: a lighthouse that continues to guide us. May this day become, year after year, an opportunity to look around us and give thanks," they indicate.

To conclude, they add: "Happy birthday, Don César. Your light has not gone out. Your work lives in every volcano, in every viewpoint, in every corner of our soul."

"With respect and deep admiration,

The members of the FSOC works council."
